Wellsboro the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania

Coming back from the Finger Lakes region of New York, we took a detour over to Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, Wellsboro’s Pine Creek Gorge is an undiscovered treasure, featuring undisturbed cascading waterfalls, bike & hike trails, picnic areas, and a historic small farming town with cozy little restaurants. I want to give a shout out to Matt at the Tioga County Welcome Center, who was very helpful with final directions to the state parks and tips for the best places to hike and eat in town.

Leonard Harrison and Colton Point State Parks offer the best hiking trails into the Canyon. If you’re a biker or skier, Pine Creek Trail – located at the base of the Canyon, is a 63 mile tour of every vista, waterfall and bird viewing area the region has to offer. It’s said that there’s incredible turning leaves in the fall as well.

On our final drive back to New Jersey, we passed the Pike Drive-In, one of the few remaining drive-in theaters in the area, and stopped at Mount Airy Casino and Resort, just off Route 80 in the Pocono Mountains.
