Volunteers needed for Far Rockaway clean up this Saturday

There will be a volunteer clean-up day in Far Rockaway to aid those in that area who continue to struggle in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Uber is sponsoring free transportation between Manhattan and the volunteer site at 2052 Mott Avenue. They’ll send cars to the pick up spot at 8am from 37 W. 28th Street (28th St. btw Broadway and 6th Ave) and take volunteers and supplies to Far Rockaway where things get started at 9am.

Organizers include Peace Is A LIFEStyle Crisis Response, Recovery, & Rebuild Team; Office of Congressman Gregory Meeks; NYC Council Members Leroy Comrie, James Sanders, Ruben Wills; also Donavan Richards; Reshma Sajuani; AKILA WORKSONGS, Eddie Stern & Ashtanga Yoga; Deepak Chopra & Chopra Foundation; One World Academy; Russell Simmons; Cure Violence EastNY/Man Up, Inc.; I Love My LIFE Team & list still growing.

Where: Thrift-Way Strip Mall Parking Lotlocated at 2 052 Mott Ave in the Far Rockaway part of Queens, NY. Take the “A” train to the last stop or there is a pick up spot at 8am from 37 W. 28th Street.

Why: To create an environment of love, warmth & happiness to those devastated by “Sandy”

When: November 10, 2012

Time: 9am-3pm

What: There will be crews helping clean houses/blocks, delivering goods to those who cannot come out and holding an informational/motivational teach-in.
