Kickstarter for book projects launches with crowd-sourced fundraising

On photojournalists pitch their projects directly to the public. By agreeing to back a story, and for a minimum contribution of $10, the public can assure the issues they care about receive the in-depth coverage they deserve, in print. In exchange, you’re invited along for the journey.

This year the website is taking the concept one step further by introducing the Book Collection. You can now help make a photography book project see the light simply by pre-ordering a copy. Your copy will be a signed and numbered collector’s edition accompanied by a print.

According to an article on a New York Times blog, the founders of Publishing — Karim Ben Khelifa, Tina Ahrens and Walter Tjantele — are trying to fill a void for photographers trying to publish documentary and photojournalism projects.
