Adding, deleting and editing post categories in WordPress 2.7

To add a post category in WordPress 2.7:

  1. Click on the “Post” link on the left side of the Administration Panel.
  2. Click on “Categories”
  3. Type in a new category name in the “Category Name” field
  4. You must choose a “Category Slug”, that has no spaces, capital letters or special characters. For example: if the category name you choose is “Special Events”, your slug might be “special-events”.
  5. Choose a parent category, if applicable. For example: You might have a “Clothing Styles” category, and under that have children categories for “Pants” and “Shirts”. This is optional.
  6. Description is also optional, and is shown when a user roles their cursor over a category name, in navigation areas of the website.
  7. Click the “Add Category” button.
  8. An alternative way of adding a new category is while you’re posting content or store items (if you have a shopping cart). Under your category list on the “Add New Post” page, there is a “Add New Category” button. Click it, type in the new category name, choose a parent, if applicable, and “Add”. The slug will be created automatically.

To delete a post category in WordPress 2.7:

  1. Click on the “Post” link on the left side of the Administration Panel.
  2. Click on “Categories”
  3. Either roll your cursor over a category to reveal “Edit, Quick Edit or Delete” options, or select a checkbox, then choose the action “Delete” from the drop-down menu at the top or bottom of the category list.

To edit a post category in WordPress 2.7:

  1. Click on the “Post” link on the left side of the Administration Panel.
  2. Click on “Categories”
  3. Roll your cursor over a category to reveal “Edit, Quick Edit or Delete” options, and choose either “Edit” or “Quick Edit”.

NOTE: Categories will only show up in your category navigation list, after at least one post is added to it. Otherwise, it will be not be visible.
